In 1919, Michigan ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote. In 1920, the 19th Amendment became law.

ΓÇó Marie-Therese Guyon Cadillac was the wife of Antione de la Mothe Cadillac and the first European woman to come to Michigan.
ΓÇó Elizabeth Margaret Chandler was a Quaker who lived in Lenawee County. She promoted the abolitionist cause and established the Logan Female Anti-Slavery Society, the first women's anti-slavery society in Michigan.
ΓÇó Carolina Bartlett Crane was the first woman editor of a city newspaper in the nation. She supported a bill to regulate meat and dairy processing plants which was passed in 1903 by the Michigan legislature.
